Not sure if this is a business tip or a personal insight

In the new stages of a business you tend to follow those that can give you the secret sauce for marketing and promotion. So, as LinkedIn is my main source of connection I follow a lot of LinkedIn experts. But lately, it has started to feel like I was back in school. People pointing out what people are doing wrong, how naff this is, or embarrassing that is. Once again (it has happened a few times) I was unsure of what or how I should be doing this LinkedIn thing.

I was becoming overwhelmed.

I know that as business owners, this is just part of their content strategy, and knowledge base, and not aimed at me personally, but when you still have your floaties on in the ‘business pool’ it’s easy to get tired and feel like you're just treading water.

I mentioned this feeling of being stuck during the weekly group mentoring session with my business coach Ellie Scarf, and Ellie made a great point. She reminded me that I'm a sponge for knowledge (yes, she knows me) and suggested I cut out the white noise and just write in my own style.

It was something I had been thinking of and she put the words into my mouth I had been too scared to say out loud.

So, I have decided to stop relying on AI for writing.

Can I add in a disclaimer here. This is not a criticism of AI. Although initially, I thought using AI was cheating, and didn’t go near it, I realised that in my previous roles, anything public-facing would go through multiple reviews. Pass it to a colleague, get their suggestions, pass it on to someone else - do a grammar check. At Orygen I even had the expert advice and editing prowess of Fiona. So, after getting over myself, I started to use AI to refine my articles. As someone with an ADHD brain, the fun part is the writing itself. So after writing it, then running it through Chatgpt to clean it up, refine it or shorten it, I was bored - so I often skipped the final edit, and this is where my problem lies. This sometimes led to words that didn't convey my intended meaning or that I would even use, to be included in my content.

Add this to devouring content that told me what I may be doing is wrong, well - not great for my confidence.

So, as part of my December re-set I have made a vow to just ‘go it alone’ for a while.

No running it through chat GPT to get my word count down - (not that I ever listen to that part ;) )

No asking it to refine my writing and make it more succinct.

No speaking to ChatGPT at all - even just to get some praise - and boy does it give some great praise.

I am just going to go crazy and put it all out there.

So ok, how do I segue into promoting what I do and why I keep showing up on LinkedIn.

Well here goes…

Just like the benefit I get from a business coach (by the way @Ellie is the bomb and her Corporate to Coach Accelerator is a must if your on this business journey https://www.elliescarf.com/icc), having someone in your corner who you can speak out loud with is an amazing resource to invest in. The frustrations, concerns, challenges and amazing ideas you're dealing with are just that. Sitting rent free in your head. BUT if you have an opportunity to workshop your thoughts, decipher your feelings and focus your ideas, they can then be translated into real success, both professionally and personally.

And if you are like me, and devouring information, resources and expert advice is not the issue - but refining it and taking out what is helpful to you is - then having a Leadership coach is a really valuable investment in yourself and your wellbeing!

So, if you would like to find out more about this essential service - send me a message or reach out via my website and let’s talk. A conversation costs nothing except a bit of time but the outcome could be the best thing you gifted yourself this year.
